“...don’t let an arrow of criticism pierce your heart unless it first passes through the filter of scripture.” - Mark Batterson, “Chase the Lion” Devotional
While reading this morning, I felt as though this flew off the screen and slapped me in the face! Although the reference was made to outside criticism, I immediately began to wonder how many times we listen to our own criticisms and negative self-talk. Do we pass our own judgements and criticisms regarding ourselves through the filter of scripture??? OR do we accept our own self-criticisms and believe them??? Where does the negative self-talk and criticism come from???
I will be the first to admit that I am guilty of not filtering my own thoughts through scripture. I allow doubt, fear, & the opinions of others to sometimes distract me from doing what I am supposed to do. But there needs to be a shift that takes place. I need to take those thoughts captive.
2 Corinthians 10:5 (NIV) states: “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
So as we begin 2018, I pose these questions: What criticisms do you need to filter through scripture? Are they from others? Are they your own??? Either way, I challenge you to search what God says about you and the life He has blessed you with.
I assure you that His thoughts of you are good and to give you a hope and expected end. (Jeremiah 29:11) Blessings to you all and enjoy the rest of your day!
